York Artists welcome more
than 200 musicians at the International Brass Band Summer school 2008

IBBSS 2008

The participants of the IBBSS 2008

More than 200 brass band musicians of twelve different nations, such as USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, UK and Ireland travelled to Swansea.

The tutors and York artists Richard Marshall, David Childs, Owen Farr, Joseph Cook and Angelo Bearpark were part of the IBBSS, Angelo and Joe for the first time. The participants worked with the tutors also on the music of both project bands. The “Preference” Band offered the perfect repertoire for younger players with the pieces „Summon the Dragon“ from Peter Graham or „How Great Thou Art“, whereas the “Eminence” Band presented demanding works for the advanced musicians such as „Music for a Festival” from Philip Sparke. At the great final concert both bands presented their polished programmes.

The tutors also offered a taste of their skills. With their solo interludes and short presentation the 200 plus participants got an insight into brass at its best.

At the „YORK Day”, the musicians had the opportunity to thoroughly test the York brass instruments and also play with them during rehearsals. A particular thank you goes to the organisers Robert and Nicholas Child and the team headed by Alison Childs for their excellent and professional preparation and execution, as well as to all tutors for the first class work.
